26, 2005 - More In The Works
As the month of October
nears its end, rest assured that there is a lot going on here behind the scenes.
We are working on massive updates for Independent Modeling, Independent Acting,
Independent Performer, and TALON. We've been improving our established tools
and are working on a whole new generation of effective tools for the professional,
and most of them will be available free of charge.
In the last post, we talked about how decentralization was going
to be a big thing in 2006. Expanding on that will be our second key, something
that we would like to call professional leverage. Professional
leverage is both a philosophy and a brand new strategy for our sites
and the professionals who use what we have to offer. It will define what the
independent talent movement is all about in the next few years, and maybe
even longer than that. Professional leverage will be the killer application
that will change the way our careers and the industry works. Remember all
those unprofessionals out there who we used to complain about- the ones who
undermine the credibility of those who work independently? We are no longer
worried about them, and we'll reveal why in the near future. We now see credibility
as being relative. The last four years, we've experimented a lot, and now
the results have been analyzed and the days of experimenting are over. We
now have proven, and many brand new, tools and techniques that will be utilized
before the end of the year. The site that you are now on is a great design
and is no longer experimental, either. It is our platform for the future,
and you can expect great things to come from it. We have concluded our shakedown
period (which began in early July) and will be fully operational this Fall.
So, what exactly is professional leverage? We'll give you a clue.
Consider the U.S. Postal Service, and how they lost a lot of money when E-Mail
took off in the mid 1990's. Isn't E-Mail popular now days? Do you suppose
the art of letter writing has been lost, and, if not, is it less or more effective
today?
We could give what we have invented away in one more sentence, but we're not
going to. Not now, at least. What does this have to do with modeling? Both
nothing- and everything. We only ask that you consider this question and think
about it. This analogy may be closer to the truth than you realize, and the
smarter ones out there may already be smiling because they know what we are
about to do. There are two points that we just made with that analogy, and
it gets real interesting from this point on.
We will be surprised if many of the smaller model and talent agencies are
still in business in the next ten years. We are convinced that the old "middleman"
modeling industry agency business model is no longer profitable, and the market
will change to reflect that. The change will come when everyone wakes up and
realizes that things have changed, and it's already happening. On that note,
we will also be surprised if those tacky portfolio networking sites survive,
too, as the present sites out there are not balanced and are more like an
engine only running on half of its cylinders. We will be the ones to fix what
is wrong with those sites by introducing improved and advanced portfolio networking
features to our sites. The Independent Sites are the future.
Going to other things in the works, we have Frontier Society, which has been
in the works since 2003 (that is, the web site- Frontier Society is a subculture
that was founded back in 1993). As most of you know, the Independent Sites
(such as Independent Modeling) were directly derived from the design and the
work that went into the Frontier Society web site. The site will now be built
using what's been done and will add a few new design tweaks. Frontier Society
will begin as a small site this Fall, and will initially focus on video games,
hobbies such as kites and aquariums, the Tampa Bay social scene, and night
clubs. The site will not be limited to those topics, however, and is designed
for exponential expansion and unlimited content. Expect a lot of initial content
(maybe a bit too much) to center around video games. Frontier Society is staffed
by a new team, is maintained by our web team, and will work with the Independent
Sites.
Just because it's not online yet doesn't mean nothing is going on. We are
working overtime behind the scenes, have some awesome things in store for
you, and will be expanding our ability to create content and to update the
sites this Fall, starting with several new computers, laptops, flash drives,
and other quality equipment for our staff.
One more thing. Things that seem to be contradictory may only seem that way
to the uninformed and those who refuse to learn the details. Those who assume
things without checking the facts and those who fail to adapt to inevitable
changes will surely be the first to become professionally extinct.
Until the near future, we have
some files to back up. See you all soon with a the start of an industry revolution.

The
agency way is no longer the only way of having a professional career as
a model. There is no arguing against common-sense and proven business
practices. Modern professional models think for themselves, network, and
book work both as independent models and by using agencies as one of many
sources of jobs. This is the future of the modeling industry.
