Independent Modeling is a resource site for independent and agency-represented models who wish to enhance the marketability of their modeling careers, as well as have an advantage over limited models; those limited models being agency-only models who do not think for themselves, do not invest in their career, and allow modeling agencies to manage them, and to tell them what to do. Other limited models include models who try to put together competent professional modeling portfolios for free, using TFP, and who try to compete against professional models with cheap career tools. The independent models who use Independent Modeling are smart, professional models who know enough that to have an advantage over other models, that they have to invest in their careers. Independent Modeling is NOT a modeling and talent agency, and we do not claim to be. We do not directly refer models into modeling jobs for financial compensation, and do not represent models. Independent Modeling is not intended to be used for any advice, which includes legal advice, and any advice which can only be legally given by a licensed professional in a regulated profession. Thursday, October 13, 2005 - Preparing The Sites

We have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes, going over content in preparation to post it, testing the news site designs, finalizing formats, and fine tuning our short term-tactics and long- term strategy. It's taking time, but we wouldn't have it any other way. Once Independent Modeling, Independent Acting, Independent Performer, TALON, and Frontier Society are all up and are being updated, the updates will be constant and, at times, very heavy (especially once we get our new lap tops and portable terminals for updates on-the-go). By December, we will have an additional 35 to 40 work-hours a week going into all the sites, and once those hours are available we can keep up that workload indefinitely. We foresee a day where professional models can walk through downtown Tampa during a break from a project, check the Internet from a city bench, and then update the web site within seconds. This will make updating the sites extremely cost-effective and efficient.
Concerning Independent Modeling (and, for that matter, all the Independent Sites), we took a long look at the earlier versions of the site yesterday. It seems that in the early days, the site changed around too much to be brought up to speed, and was consistently half-baked. Despite the lack of the realization for its full potential, Independent Modeling became popular and effective, growing on the strength of its unique content alone. With the present site, we've been experimenting constantly since it came online on July 1 (the past three months), and the year of research and development behind the site design has been realized. The site has been certified as exceeding design goals, and will not have to be changed for years to come. This paves the way for finally completing the site(s) and adding a wealth of exclusive content and features. We finally have the platform and the solid framework to bring the site(s) up to full speed and beyond.
Regarding our long term strategy, it seems that the new Advanced Model online magazine, which will eventually become our print magazine, too, will be even more important than some of even us first thought. The online component will serve as a portal to the independent sites, quality career tool vendors, and modeling resources. It will serve both the independent modeling market and the old-school agency-based modeling industry (for as long as agencies exist and remain viable). Updated monthly as an online magazine, this new site will be advertised conventionally, and will serve as a front-end for the independent sites. Some may have thought that Advanced Model was going to replace Independent Modeling (what would you think if you saw a site on the web just sitting there without updates and then a new site being announced?), but now it's known that Independent Modeling is not being abandoned, but rather expanded. Advanced Model and the upcoming Model Industry Today will serve to enhance Independent Modeling and the Independent Sites. Besides, why would we put all this work into a brand new format to only abandon it? We're just getting started. Going back to Advanced Model, the web site will be completely free and supported by advertisers. Independent Modeling will contain tools and more in-depth content, with both free and paid membership content.
Independent Modeling has had an interesting history. It started as a small online modeling resource web site on September 4, 2001, and later reluctantly added a job board and a model section (yes, we once did have models up there in our model section, and we will have them again soon!). In 2003, the site shifted focus to fighting model scams, which had mixed results. With the new format, however, our focus is back on where it belongs- becoming the best modeling resource on the Internet; a goal we will have reached within the next year. It has now become clear that fighting model scams is not compatible with what we are going to do- help promote talent and provide them with the tools and resources that they need. In the past, there was content on Independent Modeling which was very over-the-top and a bit unprofessional. This won't happen again.
Independent Modeling and the Independent Sites should be completely up in a few days (we also have some serious web issues to address later today). Frontier Society is due online later this month. We are on track to becoming a powerful institution on the Internet and the ultimate modeling resource. We've been experimenting with PHP databasing, RSS news feeds, web tools such as Flash, and other interesting things. What does this mean, and what is the aforementioned Model Industry Today going to be about? You'll just have to check back and find out.

The agency way is no longer the only way of having a professional career as a model. There is no arguing against common-sense and proven business practices. Modern professional models think for themselves, network, and book work both as independent models and by using agencies as one of many sources of jobs. This is the future of the modeling industry.
