18, 2005 - Features Finalized
We have spent the day finalizing features on several things throughout the
Independent Sites. This means that our FTP connection will be chugging today
as we update our CSS templates and have to refresh all of our HTML content
to support these features. Here are some of those tweaks.
Job/ Audition Boards/ Professional
Collaborations, Announcements, and Classifieds
Job boards are a form of advertising.
Classifieds are a form of low end advertising. So are announcements. Professional
collaborations, on the other hand, are a lot like jobs, but without direct
pay.
Since a lot of these features are related, and can cross with others, we had
a great time organizing them. So, without any more of a delay, here's what
we came up with.
Job/ Audition/ Professional
Collaboration Boards
Free. We have included "free or no-pay jobs" with
the job boards, and these will be differentiated ONLY by the pay fields and
details. We could have split them up, but this would have required another
set of boards (less work for us, and something which we could easily do in
the future if we decided to do so), and we feel that people should be able
to browse through the boards and check things out by their header and the
description details- they will find out about the pay only when they check
deeper into the opportunity (but before they have to contact the posting party,
obviously- It takes, what, about five seconds to see if it pays or not? Get
over it.). Does collaboration= free? Not really. You can get paid in more
ways than money, and those who only work for money limit themselves. Networking
and getting quality tools are important, too, and sometimes you have to invest
time (or money), to make money with any career. This does not mean, however,
that you turn your career into a charity. It merely means that you need to
make educated decisions on what jobs and projects you will get involved with.
Does a photographer want models for TFP? Check out their work, and if it is
good and they are qualified, go for it. Let us know if that works out for
you, too (feel the sarcasm). We might not agree with TFP-type crap anymore,
but we won't stop anyone from posting it unless we can find a genuine reason
not to, and not-liking unprofessional work is not a good enough reason. Obviously,
if it an obvious scam of any kind or it is questionable, we won't post it.
Announcements
Free. This kind of blurs with advertising and job/ collaborations,
but is more in tune with news and news of projects. Since a lot of this has
nothing to do with jobs, we have another, job board formatted board just for
announcements.
Classifieds
$29.99 with no time limit (a one-time fee for that post- we
will not charge you every month like we do with advertisers). This is low-end
advertising, and Independent Modeling, Independent Acting, and Independent
Performer will have their own separate classified sections. Over time, we
are going to organize this by subject/ post date, with expiration dates in
the menu if it is relevant. For now, we start out with simple job board formatted
sections. We'll have the Paypal link up in a few days.
Going to another form of advertising,
we have some enhancements to the featured talent profiles.....
Featured Talent Profile
Security
We have added security features to the featured talent and
industry profiles. We can't go into specifics, but one of the features that
we can disclose is a screening feature for profile members. All this will
be online with the first profiles.

The
agency way is no longer the only way of having a professional career as
a model. There is no arguing against common-sense and proven business
practices. Modern professional models think for themselves, network, and
book work both as independent models and by using agencies as one of many
sources of jobs. This is the future of the modeling industry.
