12, 2005 - Convergence Divergence
Confused by the title
of this one? We're not. This describes perfectly what is going to happen to
the Independent Sites in the next few years. Both words have been used by
our web team in the past year to describe the parallels of the sites and what
will happen once they are fully operational and each takes on a life of its
own.
Someone wrote us and brought up the issue that the sites were not updated
fast enough. While that would be an accurate observation, it doesn't take
into account what most could not know- that the sites were never operational
to begin with at the point in time.
The job boards aren't working. The model and talent sections are not up. TALON
is almost completely offline and Independent Performer is in shambles (if
you look around there, you'll stumble into parts of the past version of the
site which stretches the new graphic sets to ugly proportions). TALON may
have placeholder pages, but the database itself is offline and some pages
are missing. Additionally, the TALON FAQ was done, but that was before we
took out the reference system, rendering the entire FAQ outdated until a future
time (itself ironic). The curious part of it all was that the sites were reformatted
and it was obvious that months of hard work were behind the new format. It
was well thought-out, too, which made the upgrade and then the silence that
would follow all that more confusing. Why put all that work into a revolutionary
network of sites and then leave it adrift on the Internet in an unfinished
state?
When questioned about this, Director C. A. Passinault, who the web team refers
to as "The Architect", had a simple answer. The answer was that
the sites weren't due online until late Fall, but the format work was done
for all of the sites and there was existing content. The decision was made
to reformat the existing sites using the new design, which people assumed
was the "launch" of the new site network. While it looked that way,
it was merely a placeholder for the present sites, which have been on standby.
Implementing the new design to an online existence allowed us to test the
design and let the search engines chew on some of the technology behind it.
This has been referred to as a shakedown, or test period. The tests have been
successful, with minimal adjustments required, and there is a whole lot more
to the sites and what is planned than anyone can possibly comprehend. This
is an exciting online platform with exciting potential, born of experimentation
and backed with solid numbers and facts. We're not only still in the game,
but are masters of what we do, and we are now in the position to prove it.
At this point, however, the test phase is over and approval has been granted
to port the remaining content and tools while completing the sites. Updates
will increase the remainder of the year, and the sites will experience massive
growth in 2006. Agency not required? Those are more than just words. What
will be on these sites, and the tools available, make this statement much
more than a few arrogant sounding words.
Going back to the "convergence divergence" meaning, we can explain.
Once the sites are completely operational later this month, the sites will
have much of the same content and content structure, but relevant to their
specific target markets. As time goes on, each site will take on a life of
its own, and will evolve separately. While the main menus will remain synchronized
for continuity between channels, the content itself will follow the direction
of each site. Each site, while connected and related, will become quite different,
following an outline drafted by C. A. Passinault himself and inspired by a
visual stage and philosophical concept in his theme event script for an interactive
theme event titled Club Zero. This is the best news yet for an entertainment
industry hungry for real change, and the revolution begins now.

The
agency way is no longer the only way of having a professional career as
a model. There is no arguing against common-sense and proven business
practices. Modern professional models think for themselves, network, and
book work both as independent models and by using agencies as one of many
sources of jobs. This is the future of the modeling industry.
